Big Energy, New Year
Those that know me, know I am all about energy. The energy people bring, the energy I give, and the energy available to us to catapult into new habits, relationships, careers, and general life choices.
For many of us, I think we can agree no one is thrilled with the energy 2020 has brought and we cannot wait to ring in the New Year, with hopes of new energy! With a new President elect, a distribution plan for vaccines, and social reform in progress, we are literally at a “Great Conjunction” and the energy is here for it! Today, December 21, 2020 marks a rare alignment between Jupiter and Saturn, known as the Great Conjunction. This happens every 20 years and many hope that this with have ripple effects for years to come. Many have even coined this as the Christmas Star, fitting as we role into the 25th, but we will get to that in a bit.
How it started?
In 1623, the solar system’s two giant planets, Jupiter and Saturn, traveled together in outer space. Jupiter caught up and passed Saturn, in an astronomical event coined the “Great Conjunction”.
Why is this one so cool?
A recent article published by NASA states it has been over 400 years since the planets passed THIS close to one another, and nearly 800 years since Saturn and Jupiter aligned at night, as it will this year - allowing people, worldwide, to witness this “Great Conjunction”.

Why is it called the Christmas Star?
Some astronomers believe that the “Star of Bethlehem” could have been a rare conjunction involving both of these planets. One popular theory, found in an article on space.com, outlines a series of conjunctions between Jupiter and Saturn in 7 BC. During that time, these planets meet three times! These conjunctions are said to help support the the Magi on their trip from the Far East to Bethlehem. More can be found on space.com's recent article here.
How may it impact you?
The energy of these two giants is palpable and a great jumping point to head into 2021. Jupiter is associated with health, wealth, and having a good time, while Saturn focuses on strict responsibility and setting limits. This can create somewhat of a power struggle but can bring about big changes - in career, life, love, etc. If you can release old habits and embrace new ideas, new ways of doing things, and new habits, you can ride this energy wave into a great 2021.
As a Capricorn, I am beyond excited for this big energy. Releasing the weight of all the sadness 2020 has brought for me personally, letting go of toxic relationships, and shifting my negative views of self to those of self love and self worth, are all things I plan to leave in the dust along with 2020. I look forward to leveraging the solid foundation us earth signs have, and build off that, launching deeper into my career, my blog, and my relationships, making some big moves. This surge of energy, courtesy the Universe, is a great gift but doesn’t mean it will be easy - but you bet I am going to harness this to drive me into a successful, positive, and confident 2021.

Want to witness the “Great Conjunction”?
NASA has advised for those who would like to witness it to do the following:
Find a spot with an unobstructed view of the sky, such as a field of park. These planets are bright so you should be able to see if from most cities.
An hour after sunset, look to the southwestern sky. Jupiter will look like a bright star and be very visible. Saturn will not be as bright but will appear slightly above and to the left of Jupiter until December 21st. Today Jupiter will overtake it and they will reverse positions in the sky!
The planets can be seen with unaided eye, but if you have binoculars or a small telescope, you may be able to see Jupiter’s four large moons orbiting the giant planet.
