Parenting in a Pandemic: How To Teach Tiny
I chat with Val, Founder of How To Teach Tiny, on our second live chat around parenting during the COVID19 pandemic. Val provides advice on how parents can help keep their sanity and their kids active while everyone is at home - all day, everyday. Click on the link below to listen to Val share her tips and tricks on parenting during this unprecedented time.
Key tips and tricks while quarantine with the kids:
Make a schedule. Flexibility is important, but the bones need to be there. Think of it like furniture in a room: the dimensions don't change, but the pieces can move!
Validate feelings. As an adult its a bit easier to put words to feelings, children find this more difficult. Simply listening and offering ideas/plans that you would find helpful will allow for a more child-led conversation!
Set boundaries. Have a work call? Mommy is "closed" for 30 minutes. Plan ahead by giving them options of open activities to do independently while you work!
Be patient - with yourself and your kids. This is an unprecedented time with unprecedented emotions. Take a breathe and try to find the bright spots of this extra time together!
Relax. Your kids are learning! It may not be in the traditional sense, making it hard to understand and feel at ease, but your children are growing creatively and emotionally - two areas that can't be underestimated!
